Though you can get a professional travel guide, it still helps to know a little bit about the places that you can visit. Be sure to ask your tour guide about these places to have a more complete experience of the city.

Arboretum de Chevrèloup – This is one of the lesser known attractions of the city of Versailles. As the city with giant structures, buildings and have seen massive development through years, it’s quite hard to imagine that this place in Versailles should exist. This garden used to house the deer owned by Louis XIV. Although there are no more deer in sight, you’ll find a Museum for Natural History in the middle of the trees. You’ll find lots and lots of trees in this place. Ask if there are camping or picnic grounds that you can enjoy at least an hour or two.

Versailles Park – Located in front of Palace, your experience can never be complete if you don’t take a short stroll in this park. The park was specifically created to complement the Palace. But it’s really not easy if just want to take a “short stroll” in this place. The park covers more that 800 hectares and is really breathtaking. You can immediately take a stroll in this park after or before you visit the Palace. In this ground you’ll also see kiosks and stalls in case you get hungry. But don’t think that it’s just a regular park with trees and wide open spaces. The landscape in this park is worth a picture in anytime of the day.

Palace of Versailles – the palace was just a decent hunting lodge of the kings when it was first built. It saw great renovations when Versailles became the seat of power in France. The year was 1682 and Louis XIV was the king then. This Palace as we have indicated earlier boasts of a front yard that spans at least 800 hectares. This palace has so many sections and most of them are open to most visitors. If you’re going to Versailles, it’s really hard to imagine that you didn’t have the time to visit this place. Because of the intensity and the size of the place, be sure to give this place one day.

Notre Dame de Versailles – founded by Louis XIV, this impressive church from the 17th century was able to preserve most of its structures. The gothic architecture is clearly there. Be sure to take pictures of the 18th century sculptures in the choir loft and stroll the extended chapel of the Blessed Sacrament from the 19th century.

On the side note don’t miss the market days of the town: Tuesdays. Fridays and Saturdays. These days was observed since the day it was decreed by Louis XIV. You can buy lots of stuffs on a bargain or you can just enjoy the business of the street as you watch them from one of the cafes.
